 READ WITH YOUR CHILD!

Predict: Sit beside your child, read the title and predict what the story might be about.

Talk as You Read: After you read a few pages, stop and ask your child to:

Say something about the text.

Share what they are thinking or wondering.

Share how this is similiar to something they already know or has happened to them.

Summarize: Explain in their own words what they read or learned.

Read, Read, Read: Have books everywhere!

Put books in the car when you are going on a trip.

Allow your child to stay up a half hour later each night to read

Be a Reading Model: Become a reader yourself!  You are your child’s first teacher!
